Ski 2015
Going skiing for a couple of days quick becomes a $100+ adventure. Ski rentals are $20 - $40 daily, ski tickets are $70 - $110 daily.
Last years options for flying were limited. Tickets were $350 - $750 to get an 1 hour / 1.5 hour flight from San Diego to Salt Lake or Mammoth.
Other special trips:
Visiting Mesa Ruins, Cliff Dwelling in Colorado close to New Mexico.
Ski Whistler, BC
Whistler is an exclusive sky resort 1.5 hours form Vancouver, BC, Canada. Flights to Vancouver are available but often with a stop. Non stop flights from San Diego are available to Bellingham, WA and Seattle, WA at very reasonable rates (as airlines are competing).

The Good:
The flight from San Diego (SAN - MMH) is currently pretty affordable (last year I could find no flight under $350).
Alaska Airlines offers "skis fly free" during the week, and a free lift ticket. The airport is small and most hotels offer free transfers. A 10 minute ride gets you inside a warm hotel with a cold drink.
Hotels are reasonably priced, and the mountain is easily accesible with a free transfer bus throught Mammoth Village.
